The newly-appointed creative director of Gucci, the relatively unknown-till-now Alessandro Michele in his debut womenswear collection for the Fall/Winter 2015/2016 wanted a clean break from the past, instead introducing a new motif, birds in flight, during Milan Fashion Week.
“There is no room for consolatory nostalgia....Rather the need to affirm freedom.”
The press notes continues, "The collection celebrates untimely details, quintessential interferences, discrepancies and diachronies, which reclaim their discordance with the present in order to better comprehend the present itself."
There were the same elaborate poet bows on silken shirts and loose-fitting suits with contrast piping, elements seen in the menswear collection from earlier this year, when the 42 year old Italian was hastily brought to the forefront after Frida Gianini's departure. Just as quickly, Michele put his signature on the new collection with a pleated chiffon-y floral dress with a built-in cape; crinkled leather dresses in red and peacock blue and military-style coats with fur trim that had an antique feel. A red dress with pleated tiers was paired with flats for the perfect day-into-evening dress.
