Grand Seiko SBGW295 with urushi lacquerware
By SENATUS Editor | 1 February 2023

Witness the individual work of an outstanding lacquer craftsman on the dial of each SBGW295. The timepiece is a re-creation of the first Grand Seiko timepiece from 1960, celebrating the Japanese company's 110 years of watchmaking.

Urushi lacquerware is a tradition going back thousands of years in Japan, which relies on a vegetal sap collected from the trunk of specific trees, and retains its color and luster for long time once carefully applied by skilled craftsmen.

The deep black dial of this Grand Seiko is made of several layers of Urushi lacquer, carefully polished until the plate offers a mirror-like and distortion-free surface to the eye.

An exceptional timepiece, SBGW295 is a limited edition of 500 worldwide, and will be available from February 1st at selected Grand Seiko authorized stores.
