Jaeger-leCoultre Duomètre Sphérotourbillon - a tribute to astronomy
By SENATUS Editor | 3 March 2023

With a Moon Phase complication at 3 o’clock, Jaeger-leCoultre's Duomètre Sphérotourbillon is designed to remain accurate for a full 3,887 years.

Drawing its inspiration from the Earth’s own rotating axis, the Duomètre Sphérotourbillon introduces a new generation of multi-axis Tourbillon. Two distinct and rapid rotations -respectively in 30 and 15 seconds- enable the watch to defy the effects of gravity in all positions. An innovative structure paired with the revolutionary Dual-Wing concept giving rise to extreme precision.

As a tribute to astronomy, its disc is made of lapis lazuli, a rock that looks as if it has landed there down from the sky chart. Echoing the moon, it features a dusting of stars as well as hands and hour creating a two-tone ambiance. The strength of its design partly lies in the symmetrically choreographed dance of the functions displayed on its finely grained dial.

Its design is driven by the complexity of its calibre, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 382. While the left zone reveals the secrets of the Sphérotourbillon, the right is the main dial, indicating local time and the date, subtly placed on a lower level all around the dial. An additional 24-hour subdial occupying the upper part of the dial serves to display the time in another timezone and the small seconds appear in the lower part of the dial.
