Time across borders: Longines marks a century of Zulu Time with a rose-gold bezel tribute
By SENATUS Editor | 27 May 2025

Longines—synonymous with aviation heritage and global elegance—takes a masterstroke into the past and future with the unveiling of the Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925. This new 2025 release commemorates the centenary of the brand’s pioneering foray into dual time zone wristwatches, an innovation first introduced in, fittingly, 1925.

The story of Zulu Time is one that spans continents and centuries. From the Ottoman Empire’s request for dual-time pocket watches in 1908, to the birth of the “Zulu Time” wristwatch—named for the ‘Z’ maritime flag that denotes the Greenwich Meridian—Longines has long navigated the nexus of precision and exploration. That legacy takes new form in this celebratory edition: a tribute not just to the passage of time, but to how we experience it globally.

At the heart of the Zulu Time 1925 lies a 39mm stainless steel case—understated yet resolute—crowned with an exquisite 18k rose gold-capped bezel, a first for the collection. Its circular-brushed insert and engraved 24-hour scale offer functionality as well as flair, allowing a true globetrotter’s dream: tracking three time zones simultaneously. The rose gold’s subtle nod to the copper meridian at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich adds an intellectual sparkle to its aesthetic glow.

The matte black dial is a stage of contrasts and clarity. Rose-gold-coloured hands and indexes, treated with Super-LumiNova®, shimmer against the dark backdrop, while five stars above 6 o’clock whisper of exceptional quality. A discreet date window and the tonal engraving “1925 – 2025” remind us that this is more than a timepiece—it’s a centennial icon.

Turn it over, and the exhibition case back reveals yet another first: a rose-gold-hued rotor engraved with a world planisphere, its Prime Meridian etched proudly through its center. Inside, the COSC-certified calibre L844.4 beats with exactitude—a self-winding marvel with 72-hour power reserve and enhanced magnetic resistance.

Whether paired with the polished steel bracelet or the rugged black NATO strap, the Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925 is offered in a special commemorative box—designed for collectors, voyagers, and visionaries alike. A century of Zulu Time, distilled into one elegant, exploratory statement.
