การมาของ 2013 BMW GS R 1200 เป็นการมุ่งเน่นตอบโจทย์ 2 ล้อที่ทรงสมรรถนะในการขับขี่มากยิ่งขึ้นกว่าเดิมแต่แม้เรือนร่างอาจจะไม่เห็นความแตกต่างมากนักนอกจากล้อทีเพิ่มขนาดเป้น 19 นิ้วพร้อมยาง 120/60/R19 ทางด้านหน้า ส่วนทางด้านหลังใช้ 170/60/R17 ซึ่งเป้นยางที่ผลิตมาเฉพาะรุ่นอย่างแท้จริง แถมรุ่นใหม่นี้ยังมีน้ำหนักเบาขึ้น เหลือเพียง 237 ก.ก.เท่านั้น

ด้านเครื่องยนต์มีการปรับปรุงสมรรถนะให้สามารถตอบสนองในการขับขี่พร้อมลุยมากยิ่งขึ้น โดยอาจจะยังใช้เครื่องยนต์ 1170 ซีซี เหมือนเดิม แต่ก้มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงใหม่ที่สำคัญ ด้วยการปรับช่องทางเดินน้ ด้วยการปรับช่องทางเดินน้ำเพื่อระบายความร้อน จากเดิมที่ใช้น้ำมันในการระบายความร้อน

การปรับแต่งที่เปลี่ยนแปลงในจิตวิญญาณทำให้ 2013 BMW GS R 1200 มีพละกำลังเพิ่มขึ้นจากเดิม 15 แรงม้า จากเดิม 125 แรงม้า ที่ 7,700 รอบต่อนาที โดยยังมาพร้อมระบบเกียร์ 6 สปีดและปรับอารมณ์การขับขี่ให้เหมาะสมได้ถึง 5 แบบ ได้แก่ "Rain", "Road", "Dynamic", "Enduro" และ "Enduro Pro"ช่วยตอบความเร้าใจในอารมณ์แถมระบบในรุ่นใหม่นี้ยังสร้างมาตรฐานด้วยระบบเบรก ABS พร้อมชุดปั้มเบรก Monoblock จาก Brembo แถมทุกโหมดยังควบคุมความมั่นใจในการขับขี่ด้วย ASC (Automatic Stability Control)

nine years and 170,000 units sold. that’s what the current BWM R 1200 GS has achieved and with those figures, it has also become the name synonymous with adventure-touring bike. hence, developing a new successor would be one huge delicate task but that hasn’t stop the Motorrad folks from rolling out an all-new 2013 model. the 2013 BMW R 1200 GS rolls in with a newly designed 1,170 cc Boxer engine that delivers 125 horses (92 kW) of power and 125 Nm of torque (92 lb-ft), mated to a 6-speed gearbox that’s integrated into the engine housing along with a wet clutch with anti-hopping function as oppose to a dry clutch used previously. the new Boxer engine features a host of other improvements too, most notably is the inclusion of E-gas (think E-throttle in cars), in which the throttle valve are regulated electronically by the central computer based on the input from the accelerator’s sensor.

other highlights include a new intake system for optimum output and torque, new suspension with torsionally stiff tubular steel bridge frame and bolt-on rear frame, newly developed Telelever up front and EVO Paralever at rear, refined master chassis geometry data and long swingarm for improved traction, adjustable handlebars, radially mounted Brembo Monobloc brake calipers (front) and 2-piston floating caliper with enlarged brake disc (rear), integral ABS, LED main headlamp with optional integrated daytime running light, adjustable touring windshield and a new instrument cluster with onboard computer. the new BMW R 1200 GS rides on 120/70 R19 at the front while the rear gets the 170/60 R17 which, according to BMW, is the world first, tailored specially for the R 1200 GS. despite the reengineering, the 2013 model still bears the signature adventure-touring bike look. the new model will be available in four main paint finishes including Alpine White, Racing Red, Blue Fire, as well as Thunder Grey Metallic.
