Culture Chanel Opens at the Guangzhou Opera House, China

Culture Chanel, opens at the Guangzhou Opera House to the attendance of over 600 guests who celebrated the exhibition opening in the presence of its artistic director Xu Min Qi, as well as Luo Yi Ping, director at the Guangdong Museum of Art, Jean-Louis Froment, curator of "Culture Chanel" and Claus Oldager, President of Greater China at Chanel. Attended by many including famous artists, VIPs to the press, among whom were actress and Chanel’s ambassadress Zhou Xun, artists Hou Han Ru, Han Ya Juan and Zhou Yi, singer Anthony Wong, model Qin Shu Pei and opinion leaders Hung Huang, Zing and famous chinese blogger Han Huo Huo.

This new exhibition is centered on Pablo Picasso’s stage backdrop, created for Serge Diaghilev’s 1924 ballet, Le Train bleu (The Blue Train) and shows how Gabrielle Chanel and the greatest artists of her time invented a totally new language that left a deep and lasting mark on the 20th century.

Through 400 works, including photographs, drawings, paintings, manuscripts, books, films and fashion creations (from Mademoiselle Chanel to Karl Lagerfeld), "Culture Chanel" retraces the bold adventure of a brand that continues to express the essence of its time and whose language is synonymous with modernity and creativity.

Among the pieces exhibited visitors will discover for the first time around thirty previously unseen drawings by Pablo Picasso from a private collection, along with drawings by Amedeo Modigliani that are portraits of the major protagonists involved in Le Train Bleu’s creation.

Designed by the architect Zaha Hadid, the exhibition will take place from the 16th January to 3rd March 2013.
