Blancpain has for Valentine's Day this year, launched a magnificent jewelry timepiece inspired by a cocktail watch once owned by Marilyn Monroe. This continues a tradition in which the Swiss Manufacture creates a limited series of ladies' watches dedicated to love.
Limited to 14 pieces only, the timepiece is a nod to the charm and audacity of exceptional women.
It boasts a rectangular white gold Art Deco style case is set with 84 diamonds, accentuated on top and below by two generous marquise-cut gems. On the mother-of-pearl dial, inlaid with the design of two hearts, are two brilliant-cut diamonds and two precious butterflies made of diamond and ruby hearts.
Inside, the watch movement is driven by the rectangular-shaped caliber 510, a major new addition to the Blancpain collection and an affirmation of the strong heritage started by Blancpain in the 1930s, devising the first self-winding wristwatch for women. The symmetry between the balance-wheel and the barrel lend both delicacy and visual equilibrium to this two-tone mechanical movement, while the chamfered finish of its bridges adds a soft and light touch. This can be seen from the open caseback.
Both sensual and technical, this jewelry watch celebrates two women, the first being Marilyn Monroe, the ultimate icon, and the second being Betty Fiechter, who in 1933 bought Manufacture Blancpain, becoming the first female watch brand owner and director. It was the latter who initiated the launch of the Ladybird (1956) – the ladies' model equipped with the smallest round mechanical movement of the time – won people’s hearts through her blend of charm and strength.
This special "Valentine's Day 2020" Blancpain ladies watch is available with a calf leather strap secured by a pin buckle set with a brilliant-cut diamond.
