Anna Sawai, female lead in the Shōgun, has clinched the highest honors, winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. The series earned 25 Emmy nominations across all categories, following a record- breaking premiere viewership on Disney+ and Hulu, subsequently establishing Anna as a must-watch rising star.
In achieving this monumental feat, Anna becomes the first Asian woman to win Best Actress Emmy.
With 14 Creative Arts Emmys, Shōgun already broke the record that was previously held by HBO’s 2008 miniseries John Adams, which won 13 awards. It ruled the main acting categories with wins in best drama, lead actor (Hiroyuki Sanada) and lead actress (Anna Sawai), bagging a total of 18 total Emmys.
Based on James Clavell’s novel of the same name, Shōgun is a retelling of the Emmy-winning 1980s NBC miniseries. Set in 1600 feudal Japan, the show features Sawai as Lady Mariko, who is placed in charge of translating for Lord Toranaga (Sanada), and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English ship captain who enters Japanese society as it prepares for war.
Attending the awards, the newly-appointed ambassador for Cartier wore a pair of dangling earrings from the Cartier High Jewelry with alternating diamond-encrusted platinum and onyx bands, and punctuated with rubies. She also added a Reflection de Cartier ring, an 18-karat white gold ring set with baguette-cut, princess-cut, and troidia-cut diamonds.
"I am very proud to become a Cartier ambassador. For me, the Maison represents a world of creativity that constantly pushes the boundaries, exploring the beauty of savoir-faire and cultivating an original gaze on the world. Wearing these creations feels like stepping into a dream."- Anna Sawai
