Chanel recently celebrated its 100th anniversary at the recently concluded Paris Fashion Week, with Karl Lagerfeld finding occasion to also mark thirty years at the helm as Creative Director.
Indeed, over the last three decades in charge, the German couturier has seen the footprint of Chanel grow to 300 stores worldwide.
Recognizing the power and reach of the global economy, he has experimented with great fanfare and success by taking Chanel's Cruise collection on the road. Afterall, what better way to let loyal customers and fans around the world participate in the excitement of a fashion show?
Held in cities like Venice and Miami previously, fashionistas in Asia were excited to hear today that Chanel's Cruise 2014 collection will be unveiled on 9 May in Singapore, which the Wall Street Journal recently called the World's Richest City.
The Cruise or Resort collection (collection croisière, in French) also commonly known as "Pre-Spring/Summer," features designs for holidays or travel, and is an inter-season line of ready-to-wear clothing produced in addition to the recurrent twice-yearly seasonal collections - Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter - heralded at the fashion shows in New York, London, Paris and Milan. This would not be the first time Chanel has presented a fashion show in Singapore.
On 18 November 2010, the French luxury label featured its Cruise 2011 collection on the top of the then-newly opened Marina Bay Sands, amongst the breathtaking views of the Sands SkyPark to celebrate the official opening of its flagship store at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
The fashion runway was 650 feet above ground, alongside an infinity swimming pool and surrounded by a panoramic view of the city's skyline, featuring a remake of the Cruise 2011 fashion show originally presented in Saint-Tropez in May earlier that year.
Walking the unique catwalk were Singapore's very own supermodels Charmaine Harn and Sheila Sim, who stood out and drew cheers from the VIPs, celebrities, media and exclusive clientele in attendance.
This time round, Chanel officially debuts its Cruise 2014 collection to the world here in Singapore.
This marks a first for Singapore where a leading fashion house has chosen to globally launch a collection, and strengthens its position as one of the leading fashion capitals of the World.
