Jaquet Droz's feminine and modern timepiece collection, the Lady 8 Petite, sees two new variations this year, with malachite and mother-of-pearl taking centrestage.
With a watch case shaped like a figure 8, the Lady 8 collection is the Swiss watch manufacture's offering exclusively for the ladies. The number 8, on its side, brings to mind the symbol for infinity, and signifies perfection. The geometry is also evocative of the Maison's famous Grande Seconde collection, whose design was also inspired by the soft curves of the emblematic numeral.
Last year, Jaquet Droz adapted the Lady 8 into the Lady 8 Petite, a half-jewel half-talisman precious version that channels the essence of its predecessor into a minimalist diameter of 25 mm.
This year, the addition of malachite and mother-of-pearl, respectively, brings new focus on this feminine, modern collection.
With a dial of malachite, the new Lady 8 Petite comes with a matching leather strap. Malachite is one of the oldest decorative stones used by man and is often associated with luck, wealth and protection. Because of copper in its composition, each piece of Malachite is unique with slight variations in hue.
Encased in 18-carat red gold, the Malachite version is set with 68 diamonds on its bezel. A moving bead of malachite features in the top loop, able to roll in a 360 degrees, like an allegory of time elusive.
The second variation of the Lady 8 Petite features mother-of-pearl on its dial, with its iridescence catching the eye. A dotted railway demarcating hours and minutes provides additional embellishment. An authentic pearl sits atop, accentuated by the 41 diamonds on the case.
To cap off this chic, modern offering, the timepiece comes with a caramel-color double-wrap strap, crafted from calfskin, with white top-stitching.
