On 25 July, Tiffany & Co.'s new design director Francesca Amfitheatrof hosted VIPs and media over dinner to an exclusive preview of her new collection for the American jeweller, the Tiffany T collection at the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Singapore.
A graduate of London's Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins, Francesca Amfitheatrof is trained as a silversmith and a jewelry artist. She has developed jewelry for a number of prestigious fashion houses, including Chanel, Fendi and Marni.
She takes the place of John Loring, who oversaw the company's design department from 1979 to 2009.
Amongst the highlights of the evening was also a video of Francesca talking about her inspiration and her experience in New York City, home to the jewellery label. In her new role, she took the measure of the city — its power, energy and daring — and captured it in the Tiffany T.
Born in New York, Tiffany T is an icon for a new era.
Amfitheatrof dedicates the collection to the world's great cities and the global travelers who gravitate to art and culture — and the edge, where creativity sparks change.
I wanted to create a symbol for modern life and its relentless energy that flows through New York and drives art and culture around the world."
She adds, "This is just the beginning of what I hope to accomplish."
The new jewellery pieces, set to appeal to Tiffany customers new and old, are crafted by Tiffany artisans with 18 karat gold — rose, yellow and white — and sterling silver, range from wide cuffs and minimal bracelets, multiple chains of varied lengths and elegant pendant, to rings that stack seamlessly and earrings which move with grace.
With the fine diamonds and glowing gems to cap off several signature pieces, the Tiffany T symbolises the city it was born in, the bejewelled city, the city that never sleeps, New York City.
