End: 21 Sep 2014
Location: Musée Christian Dior
Address: 1 Rue d'Estouteville, 50400 Granville, France
The Christian Dior Museum will be hosting an exhibition entitled 'Dior, Images de Légende' (Dior: The Legendary Images) examining the connections between the iconic French fashion house and the world of photography.
Situated at the Villa "Les Rhumbs", Christian Dior’s childhood home in Granville, the Christian Dior Museum is set to showcase more than 200 pictures by some of the greatest fashion photographers, who going back over 67 years to 1947 when Monsieur Christian Dior unveiled his first Haute Couture collection, have presented their interpretation of the House of Dior’s creations.
The photographs will be displayed alongside 60 Haute Couture gowns and a set of historical documents illustrating the fundamental links between Dior and photography and writing a formidable history of fashion.
The exhibition will be followed with the launch of a new book published by Rizzoli New York entitled 'Dior: The Legendary Images: Great Photographers and Dior' edited by Florence Muller.
The photo book contains a wealth of photographs that bring the character of the couturier’s dresses to life, with each photographer interpreting them in his or her unique style.
The mythical photos that have constructed Dior’s image, and the emblematic subjects of the house’s iconography — whether they are dreams of a faraway place or captured in the vast open-sky "studios" of Paris or Versailles — are all evoked in this vast panorama.
Legendary contributors include Horst P. Horst, Richard Avedon, Irving Penn, Cecil Beaton, Norman Parkinson, Henry Clarke, William Klein, Helmut Newton, Guy Bourdin, Sarah Moon, Paolo Roversi, Nick Knight, Ines Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Tim Walker, Willy Vanderperre, Patrick Demarchelier, and many more.
The "Dior, The Legendary Images" exhibition will run 3 May to 21 September | The book will be available on Amazon from 10 June 2014.
