The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum opened the exhibition El Arte de Cartier, the very first showing in Spain of a selection of jewellery, timepieces and precious objects from the Cartier Collection. One of the most ambitious presentations of the Collection to date, it offers a unique opportunity to admire 420 historic pieces by Cartier.
Alongside the famous items that once belonged to legendary clients, visitors will discover the Garland-style tiara given to Queen Victoria Eugenia by King Alfonso XIII in 1920; an exceptional loan – made possible by the royal family – of this jewellery piece worn by Queen Sofia during official events.
The inauguration gala dinner, organized under the honorable presidency of HRH the Infanta Dª Pilar de Borbón, counted with the presence of numerous guests, among them, the inauguration hosts were the Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza and the President of Cartier International, Bernard Fornas.
Several international personalities played a part in this exclusive opening gala, such as Charlotte Casiraghi, Cartier special guest due to the exhibition of the Princess Grace jewels lent by The Monaco Palace, as well as the Former President of the French Republic, Mr. Valéry Giscard d’Estaing.
The performance of the singer Estrella Morente was the perfect finale for the evening, who delighted the guests with some of her new songs and closed her appearance with the song “Volver”.
