Location: International City of Lace and Fashion
Address: 135, Quai du Commerce 62100, CALAIS, France
Aor the first time in France, Dutch couture designer Iris van Herpen exhibits her creations at the International City of Lace and Fashion in Calais, showcasing thirty dresses created from 2008 to 2012, that transcend couture to art.
The initiative is part of the European CRYSALIS project devoted to textile innovation.
At just 29 years of age, Iris van Herpen has well and truly burst upon the scene of Haute-Couture. In the tradition of Martin Margiela, Hussein Chalayan and Rei Kawakubo, her sculptural, innovative dresses play a full part in the vitality of a conceptual style that examines the creative process and explores the interaction between the garment and the person who wears it.
After studying at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem (Netherlands) and spending a tutelage under Alexander McQueen, Iris van Herpen set up her highly personal creative approach which blends traditional know-how with innovative technological research.
Iris Van Herpen Showcases Haute Couture with 3D Printing: Read Story
Invited to the Parisian cat walks since July 2011 by the prestigious Chambre syndicale de la Haute Couture, van Herpen creates subtly beautiful, poetic and disorientating clothing.
The sculptural forms of her designs, enriched with shimmering and volumes with pronounced effects, places it halfway between Haute Couture and contemporary art.
van Herpen wants the wearer of her designs to be inspired by their very own inspirations, and through the showcase of her work so far, it seems she has indeed shown that fashion is limited only by the imagination.
The exhibition ‘Iris van Herpen’ was organized by the Groninger Museum in Groningen, Netherlands.
