CHANEL No. 5 by Baz Luhrmann starring Nicole Kidman

29 May 2014

Produced in 2004 for the promotion of CHANEL No. 5 fragrance. The short film stars Australian actress Nicole Kidman, directed by her fellow countryman Baz Luhrmann whom she reprised a partnership with from working on the movie Moulin Rouge!, as well as Rodrigo Santoro in the male lead role.

Bearing all the hallmarks of a Hollywood film, the commercial is beautifully shot on high-gloss celluloid, with costumes designed by Karl Lagerfeld and a score by Debussy. This time, Kidman plays the "most beautiful and most famous woman in the world".

Costing an estimated $42 million - or $233,333 a second - it is certainly a first in terms of budget in fragrance advertising, with Kidman bagging a $4.7 million fee.

In 2014, Gisele Bundchen takes over as the face of the iconic CHANEL No. 5, with a new commercial campaign directed by Baz Luhrmann once more. Read more: http://senat.us/CHANEL5Gisele
