As part of its Blancpain Ocean Commitment initiative and its role as founding partner of the Gombessa expeditions, Blancpain has revealed its support for a new mission by underwater biologist and photographer Laurent Ballesta.
Conducted in the Mediterranean, the project will undertake a study on the impact on marine vertebrate and invertebrate populations of the cessation of human activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Has a drop-off in external disturbances in the ocean led to an improvement in biodiversity?
Laurent Ballesta and Andromède Océanologie, with Blancpain’s support, conducted a scientific mission this past spring and summer seasons to monitor the marine environment off the Mediterranean coast. This study is part of an overall two-year project that will eventually make possible to list and analyse the reference state of biodiversity in the coastal waters of the French Mediterranean.
Financed by part of the proceeds from the sale of BOC III limited edition watches, this mission follows on from the Gombessa V expedition that took place in July 2019 off the French Mediterranean coast.
Blancpain Ocean Commitment - Preservation of the Ocean Never Stops
Blancpain certainly isn't new to the notion of preserving the Earth, and yet at a time when there is indisputable evidence of climate change and the process of extinction of species, the company's resolve to assist in the discovery of new rich and unspoiled territories offers a resounding message of hope.
