Bvlgari's flagship store in Kuala Lumpur has reopened with a dramatic new façade that reimagines the luxury brand’s heritage and experiments with the reinvention of traditional materials.
The Kuala Lumpur storefront is the first in a series of MVRDV façade reinventions for Bvlgari and uses concrete and resin permeated by gold light, to create a marble-like façade combining Bvlgari's signatory architectural elements from its via Condotti store with Bvlgari's world of exuberant materials.
Located in the heart of the buzzing Bukit Bintang district, and one of a number of offerings for luxury goods in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Mall, Bvlgari's flagship store has been updated with a striking concrete, resin and brass façade.
The frame of the via Condotti door is a set element used asymmetrically in different locations over the world, whilst its iconic marble façade is reinvented and reinterpreted by material experiments.
For Kuala Lumpur, a rough concrete with resin veins is used, illuminating from the inside. By day, the store façade is organic - whilst at night, a more dramatic effect is achieved. The façade is also used in the interior with a glazed concrete and here the day and night effect is reversed.
The glass inside the iconic via Condotti frame is framed in brass and has an amber colour that fades towards the top of the building. This new product consists of glass fibre reinforced concrete with veins filled with golden resin for both interior and exterior facades. Light permeates through the veins in the facade, making it resemble marble.
