Fully-Demountable Stadium 974 built out of shipping containers ready to host FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches

Stadium 974 designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects located in Doha, Qatar is ready to host the seven matches during the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The stadium is constructed on a 450,000 square-meter waterfront site and is situated on an artificial promontory. It has a modular design, and incorporates 974 recycled shipping containers in homage to the site's maritime and industrial history and the international dialing code for Qatar (+974). In fact, many of the shipping containers were used to transport materials to the stadium’s construction site.

Within the completed structure, these shipping containers have multiple uses, including as stadium amenities such as bathrooms and concessions.

Previously known as Ras Abu Aboud, Stadium 974 is the first stadium in FIFA World Cup history designed to be fully demountable. Some of the shipping containers and seats used by the stadium are later to be dismantled and provided as assistance to other under-developed countries in the world, while the stadium structure would be transported and rebuilt in Maldonado, Uruguay to host matches for the 2030 FIFA World Cup if the country's bid proves successful.

The concept of sustainability is at the very core of Stadium 974. Its seaside location offers a natural cool breeze to lighten the load on the stadium’s cooling systems. The use of prefabricated and modular elements has also reduced the waste generated during production of stadium components, the waste created on site during construction, and also reduced the venue’s construction duration.

Stadium 974 has received a 4-star global sustainability assessment system (GSAS) certification.
