Hublot releases the new Big Bang Unico Golf 45MM in Sky Blue Carbon

14 April 2023

By Kien Lee

Launched in 2017 and in partnership with golfer Dustin Johnson, Hublot introduced the world’s first mechanical golf watch, the Big Bang Unico Golf. Whilst most golf watches are digital, Hublot has brought an entirely mechanical approach to its offering.

The manufacture has done so by developing a a module for its Unico movement so that through three apertures, the watch showed golfers which hole they were on, how many shots they’d taken on that hole, and their cumulative score for the round.

The new Big Bang Unico Golf Sky Blue Carbon adds to the Orange Carbon edition released last year, as well as the Blue and the Black Carbon, with a 45mm case housing the ground-breaking Hublot MHUB1580 automatic movement.

How the shot count works

The shot-counting mechanism is activated by a yellow putter-shaped pusher at 2 o’clock, which also advances the yellow stroke counter visible through an aperture at 3 o’clock.

When it’s time to move to the next hole, another putter-shaped pusher at 4 o’clock resets the shot indication to zero and advances the hole indication at 9 o’clock by one hole. The cumulative score goes up by one with every recorded shot, and is shown through an aperture at 6 o’clock.

At the end of a round, the display can be reset to zero via the pusher at 8 o’clock. This pusher can be locked by rotating it 45 degrees to avoid accidentally resetting your score during a round.

With the watch skeletonised revealing the movement’s inner workings, every operation within it can be observed - every intriguing dance of precisely choreographed moving parts just like a good golf swing.

"I love this watch. It’s so complex and beautiful, but also so light and easy to use. Players can overthink golf, when it’s better to relax and just play the game. This watch captures some of that – it’s the kind of device that slows everything down, encouraging you to stay calm while you’re out there. What I like is that the same skill, patience and discipline you need to achieve that on the course are also behind making a watch this technical and this smart.""

Dustin Johnson, Hublot Ambassador

"I think it looks great and I am proud to add it to my collection... Thank you, Hublot for another great watch and our continued partnership," adds Johnson.

The Big Bang Unico Golf Sky But Carbon has a power reserve of 72 hours, comes on a high-tech orange fabric strap with Hublot’s One Click change system, weighs less than 100 grams, and is water-resistant to 100 metres.
